YA FEST!!!!

Hi all!!!

I will be at YA Fest this coming Saturday with a bunch of amazing authors! I'll be signing my book, Triangles, and chatting with everyone!

YA FEST 2014 is located in Easton, PA on Saturday April 19, 2014 at the Palmer Branch of the Easton Area Public Library. 1 Weller Place, Easton, Pa 18045.

Join us as 50 Young Adult and Mid-Grade fiction authors unite to sign books and speak with patrons.

Books will be provided by Barnes and Noble Southmont. A portion of proceeds will go directly to the library to help fund the YA shelves and events.

The festival will run from 10:30-3pm and feature a writing contest, signings, book sale, raffles and a Discussion Panel.

“Are you all right, honey?”

I opened my eyes. An attractive young woman with red hair and brilliant

green eyes was looking at me. What I thought was salt water from the

ocean must have been tears because my face was the only one nearby that

was wet. I glanced at her concerned expression and smiled. “Yes, thank

you. I’m fine.” I swiped away a tear with my finger. “Just…everything’s

fine.”

She stepped closer and lowered her voice. “This cruise will change

your life. Nothing will be the same when it’s over, but it will be worth it.

You’ll see.” Her emerald eyes twinkled, and she nodded her head once.

I forced a laugh to be polite. “Thanks. Enjoy your cruise.”

What a weirdo. What did that even mean? How could a cruise change

my life? I moved from my spot to avoid more weirdness from her and

found a less populated area at the back of the ship. New York and New

Jersey disappeared behind us as we charged toward Bermuda and away

from the mess my life had become.

A cloud covered the retreating sun, sending shivers through me. A

white-haired lady dropped her purse and lots of change tumbled out. A

penny hit my foot and landed on tails.

My cell phone buzzed. I pulled it from my pocket. I had thirteen

messages and thirteen texts. How would Nisha survive the next five days

without hearing from me? I took care of the messages and told her I’d call

her when we got back to Jersey.

Even though I was not very superstitious, a bad feeling crawled into

the pit of my stomach and took up residence.

I knew what I was leaving behind, but what was I floating toward?

TRIANGLES COMES OUT NEXT WEEK!!!

It’s finally here—my very first book, Triangles, will be released into the wild on June 18, 2013! 

I want to thank everyone who supported me, beta read or critiqued for me, and helped to spread the word via your blog, Facebook, Twitter, or word of mouth. Without my family, friends, coworkers, bloggers, editors, readers, and cyberfriends, Triangles would not be where it is today. Thank you all!!!

This has been an incredible journey, and I hope Triangles makes many people as happy as it has made me!

THE VALUE OF CONTESTS

I’ve had luck with entering writing contests. It’s a great opportunity to get your work in front of agents and editors. My favorite contests are the ones that either offer requests for your manuscript or critiques of your manuscript. Finding a contest that fits your genre is easy, especially if you hang out on a writer’s forum like QueryTracker.net or follow a lot of blogs. Here are a few tips for getting ahead in contests:

*Follow the guidelines! You would be surprised at how many people fail to follow the rules.

*Make sure your genre is included in the contest you are entering (again, follow the guidelines).

*Perfect your entry before the contest. Get your work in front of other writers for advice and help to make your work shine.

*Be kind to others. If you’ve entered the type of contest that requires you to comment on other entries, be honest but nice. If the entry is bad, think of a way to offer advice to improve it without tearing the work up.

*Follow up. If you get a request/win, make sure to send what is requested.

*Most of all, have fun!

Wow! Sounds great. So, if I was going to have dinner with your main character, what exotic locale would we be dining at?

Either on the ship out in the beautiful open sea, or on the amazing island of Bermuda.

Who is the character you would vote as "Most likely not to make it through customs" and why?

Hmm…Probably Marcus, because he would be the one to try to smuggle some alcohol in his carry-on!

If your main character was stranded on a desert island, what would be an essential travel item for them to take along?

A satellite phone to call someone to pick her up!

What advice would you offer to other writers embarking on their own writing adventure?

Be persistent and never give up. Breaking into publishing takes time, effort, and desire. Hone your craft, get yourself some wonderful critique partners, and take criticism with grace. I learned early on to listen to the advice of other writers because we share the same goal—to make my manuscript the best it can be. Most of all, enjoy the journey! There are amazing people out there all over the internet ready, willing, and able to help out!
